The WASH Officer reports to the WASH Specialist who is at Level 3

Purpose of the job: The WASH Officer reports to the WASH Specialist who is at Level 3. Level 1 is an entry-level professional post and should therefore normally be used as a trainee level for the purpose of acquiring knowledge of organizational rules, regulations and processes to supplement academic and theoretical knowledge of the profession for upward mobility to higher responsibilities. At this level, incumbents are not expected to remain in the post for an extended period of time.

The WASH Officer provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the WASH programming process, through the application of theoretical and practical technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing and presenting programme information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development, implementation and monitoring of the WASH output results of the Country Programme.

Minimum requirements:

• Education: A university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering or another relevant technical field.
• Work Experience: A minimum of one year of professional experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required.

• Skills: The role requires strong expertise in public health and behaviour change communication, effective coordination, experience in emergency preparedness, the ability to build and sustain partnerships, and strong facilitation skills to support programme delivery.
• Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic is required.

Desirables:

• Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
• Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.
• Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF.
