The Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP) builds partnerships with the private sector that enable IOM's strategic priorities and engage the private sector as a key stakeholder in migration through impactful and innovative partnerships. PSP leads strategic outreach and engagement with the private sector and provides Headquarters, Regional and Country Offices with assistance and expertise relating to initiating, establishing and maintaining partnerships with the private sector. PSP is responsible for the development and implementation of IOM’s Private Sector Strategy which provides a framework on how IOM engages with the private sector to support IOM’s work. PSP oversees engagement with the private sector, establishes and coordinates IOM’s private sector partnerships due diligence process, builds staff capacity in private sector partnership-building and oversees the Goodwill Ambassador programme and celebrity engagement programme.

IOM works with private sector actors on a broad range of IOM activities, including humanitarian assistance, health, labour migration and counter-trafficking. IOM’s interaction with the private sector is multifaceted; the Organization has received technological, financial, human resources and other support from the private sector to save and improve the lives of those that are most affected by conflicts or natural disasters, or those suffering from lack of opportunity. In addition, IOM partners with companies and foundations to help enhance its operational and strategic performance as well as to gather data and advocate regarding migration issues.

Under the direct technical supervision of the Head of Partnerships and Pipeline Unit and with the direct administrative supervision to the Chief, Global and Domestics Programme Unit in Washington, and in close collaboration with IOM’s Regional Offices, the Senior Private Sector Engagement Officer will be based in Washington and will be responsible and accountable for the development and management of partnerships with private sector stakeholders. The incumbent will be responsible for mobilizing resources, fostering changes in corporate values and practices, enhancing the protection of migrants’ rights, generating innovative technical partnerships that leverage business expertise and capabilities, and growing flexible funding to support global programme implementation.

Responsibilities

1. Lead the implementation of IOM’s Global Private Sector Strategy 2023–2027 in the United States, and ensure alignment with Washington’s Global Office priorities, communications strategies, key deliverables and actionable plans.
2. Develop and execute a results-driven U.S. Private Sector Fundraising and Engagement Plan, with clear income targets, pipeline projections, and measurable growth objectives, ensuring alignment with global pipeline strategies and reporting frameworks.
3. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and close funding agreements with U.S.-based corporate partners and philanthropic foundations, securing financial contributions that support global IOM operations, flexible funding priorities, and thematic portfolios.
4. Lead and manage the U.S. private sector fundraising pipeline, including prospect qualification, cultivation strategies, proposal development, negotiation of contribution agreements, and structured stewardship, in line with global pipeline governance and PSP HQ guidance.
5. Contribute to global pipeline forecasting by providing timely, accurate revenue projections, opportunity tracking, and performance updates to PSP HQ, ensuring coherence, transparency, and strategic prioritization across markets.
6. Design and execute targeted fundraising campaigns for priority thematic portfolios (e.g., climate mobility, regular pathways, emergency response, flexible funding), generating multi-year and scalable partnerships aligned with IOM strategic objectives.
7. Prepare high-quality funding propositions, concept notes, investment cases, and tailored pitch materials for U.S. private sector audiences, in collaboration with relevant thematic teams and PSP HQ.
8. Strengthen stewardship of U.S.-based private sector partners through structured engagement plans, high-quality reporting, and visibility opportunities, ensuring alignment with global engagement approaches and consolidated donor communications.
9. Coordinate with thematic teams, Regional Offices, and PSP HQ to integrate private sector fundraising with institutional priorities, ensure technical rigor, and position IOM as a trusted partner in responsible business practices, migrant empowerment, and inclusive policies.
10. Represent IOM to the U.S. business community by facilitating dialogue, sharing expertise, and driving engagement on issues such as due diligence, access to remedy, employer pays principle, migrant voice, and climate-related mobility solutions.
11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

• Master’s degree in business management, Political Science, Human Rights, International Relations, Marketing, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with seven years of professional experience; or,
• University degree in the above fields with nine years of relevant professional experience.

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in private sector partnership and income building with proven success in mobilizing financial resources from corporations and philanthropic foundations;
• In-depth understanding and experience of the US context and established track record in private sector partnership work in the US;
• Excellent understanding of private sector priorities and gained experience in developing partnerships and fundraising with the private sector;
• Experience in handling Corporate Social Responsibility programs and corporate recognition programs;
• Significant experience in exploring new private sector opportunities and providing inputs to design and develop solutions with prospective partners for income and impact;
• Experience building long-term partner relationships and understanding the value of expanding relationships across geographies and comfortable engaging with multiple sectors;
• Experienced in working cross-functionally and obtaining relevant content and information from different units to build innovative partnerships with private sector; and,
• Experienced fundraiser with an in-depth understanding of private sector partnerships, philanthropy, and UN agencies.

SKILLS

• Demonstrated influencing skills and confidence to engage with high-level stakeholders;
• Proven and successful multi-year track record in private sector partnerships and fundraising with strong ability to meet fundraising targets and to negotiate and secure high value partnerships with corporates and foundations;
• Proven ability to reconcile the needs of the Organization with those of the partner;
• Ability to write, draft, and edit reports, acknowledgements, briefings, and donor correspondence when letters, proposals, grants, appeals and ability to explain complex issues to external donors and present the Organization and diverse operations in an appealing and concise manner; and,
• Ability to develop Unique Value Proposition for private sector partners.

LANGUAGES

REQUIRED

External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

DESIRABLE

Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an advantage.
