Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 500 banks, insurers and investors. For over 32 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI promotes sustainable finance and helps the financial industry align with and contribute to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals. UNEP FI needs a consultant to coordinate and support the planning, delivery, monitoring, and communication of activities related to COP31 and the Investor Agenda. The consultant will help organize COP31 engagement across UNEP FI, contribute to key investor climate action guidance and reporting initiatives, support policy-related work, and facilitate coordination and communications between the UNEP FI Secretariat, Investor Agenda partners, UNEP FI members, and external stakeholders. Specific tasks and responsibilities The consultant will provide assistance in the following project/tasks for UNEP FI’s work relating to COP31 planning and Investor Agenda: • Organize COP31 activities across UNEP FI on behalf of the Climate Team • Support on UNEP FI contributions to the ICAPs Expectations and Guidance or equivalent resource, including links to materials from UNEP and/or UN-convened net zero alliances to ensure alignment • Contribute toa 2027 Global State of Investor Climate Action report, .including links to materials from UNEP and/or UN-convened net zero alliances to ensure alignment • Support policy work related to the Investor Agenda • Facilitate communications that relate to the Investor Agenda between the UNEP FI Secretariat, the 6 Investor Agenda network partners, and the UNEP FI membership, as well as vis-a-vis the general public, under the direction of the supervisor Outputs and Deliverables: • COP31 event coordination • Updates (if needed) to the ICAPs Expectations Ladder and Guidance and/or development of an alternative resource on investor transition plans • Input, draft and review of the 2027 Global Statement of Investor Climate Action report • Materials for an annual event on investor transition plans and disclosure in conjunction with PRI in Person or COP31 The consultant will report to: Overall supervisor: The Head of UNEP FI. Direct Supervisors: The Programme Management Officer, UNEP FI. Working in close coordination with overall climate team.
Qualifications/special skills
Education: A master’s degree in the following areas: international relations, business, event management, economics, or earth sciences is required. A bachelor’s degree could be taken in lieu of master’s degree provided the selected candidate has 9 years of relevant experience. Professional Experience: At least seven (7) year’s working experience in programme management, climate change or economics is required.
Languages
Languages: English is the working language of UNEP FI. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Spanish and other United Nations languages is an asset.

Skills & Knowledge: Excellent oral and written communications skills in English, strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with multicultural teams; ability to cope with juggling multiple tasks across diverse projects in an organized and timely manner; attention to detail. Project management training and experience. Experience running Climate Programmes. Prior engagement with COP31 processes is an asset.
