Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located primarily at the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Internship Programme position is unpaid and full-time; interns are expected to work five days per week (40 hours). The internship is offered on an in-person basis, and interns must hold a valid visa. The intern must cover all costs related to travel, accommodation, medical insurance and living expenses. The internship is tentatively scheduled to start on 9th March 2026 for a period of six months. Under the supervision of the Chief of the Office, duties may include but are not limited to: Knowledge management: • Supports development, enhancement, and maintenance of the Department’s Knowledge Hub ensuring effective platform content management, structure, and taxonomy within the Office 365 ecosystem. • Sources, organizes, and uploads relevant knowledge assets - including documents, guidelines, and videos by sourcing, organizing, and uploading materials across Division units i using SharePoint, Lists, and other O365 collaborative tools. • Responds to internal requests for information from the knowledge system users. • Conducts periodic monitoring and evaluation of Knowledge Hub and O365 usage and recommend improvements to enhance functionality. • Drafts lessons-learned reports, practice notes and analytical summaries to facilitate organizational learning. • Supports outreach and promotion of knowledge management tools across the UN system. • Assists in capacity building and training events. Communications: • Assist in drafting and editing content for public information materials, including news stories, newsletter articles, blogs and social media; • Assist in producing social media plans and campaigns, as well as explore more potential digital outreach initiatives to raise online visibility and readership of publications and/or events/projects; • Produce various multimedia materials for online and offline products, including infographics, motion graphics, short videos, animated clips, presentation templates and event flyers; • Contribute to implementing the office's communications strategy, including through social media outreach. • Assist in the organization and execution of the launch of publications and events; • Assist in identifying key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to facilitate and enhance communications efforts. • Assist in organizing conferences, seminars, press briefings, interviews and other outreach events, and in preparing briefing materials for senior officials prior to their participation in such events. • Initiate and carry out assigned tasks/special projects. General: • Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s services; • Supports the Divisional’s Office’s clearance process of input requests, communications and research material by the division • Supports the division’s programme reporting efforts, including for results based management (RBM) and the strategic management application (SMA), in coordination with divisional focal points. More generally, interns shall: 1. Observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions, procedures and directives of the Organization notwithstanding their status as described in section 4 of the UN Internship Programme Administrative Instructions ST/AI/2000/9 & ST/AI/2005/11. 2. Provide the receiving departments/offices with a copy of all materials prepared by them during the internship. The UN shall be entitled to all property rights, including but not limited to patents, copyrights and trademarks, with regard to material which bears a direct relation to or is made in consequence of, the services provided under the internship. At the request of the UN, the interns shall assist in securing such property rights and transferring them to the UN in compliance with the requirements of the applicable law. 3. Respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and of the receiving department/office and shall not seek or accept instructions regarding the services performed under the internship agreement from any Government or from any authority external to the UN. 4. Unless otherwise authorized by the appropriate official in the receiving department/office, they may not communicate at any time to the media or to any institution, person, Government or any other external source any information which has become known to them by reason of their association with the UN or the receiving department/office, that they know or ought to have known has not been made public. They may not use any such information without the written authorization of the appropriate official, and such information may never be used for personal gain. These obligations also apply after the end of the internship with the UN. 5. Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or on the receiving department/office and will not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the UN.

Qualifications/special skills

The United Nations internship programme is intended to expose students or recent graduates to the United Nations in order to enhance their educational experience and to help them to gain experience in the work of the Organization. Therefore, applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Moreover, interns should: • Should be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants must preferably pursue studies in environmental studies, economics, international trade, sustainability, or other trade-related fields. Knowledge of trade and the multilateral trading system is an asset. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Languages

Fluency in oral and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

ASSESSMENT: Candidates will be assessed based on their Personel History Profiles (PHP). Individual interviews may be conducted for further assessment. Intern Specific text

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
