Team Building and Purpose Alignment Consultant

Background
Search for Common Ground (Search) is an international peacebuilding organization committed to transforming the way people deal with conflict—away from adversarial approaches and toward collaborative solutions. Central to Search’s effectiveness is a strong, inclusive, and values-driven organizational culture that prioritizes staff well-being, learning, accountability, and collaboration.
Search teams in South Sudan and Sudan operate in complex, high-stress, and resource-constrained environments. In line with Search’s Global People & Culture framework and duty of care commitments, Search seeks to engage a consultant to facilitate a staff team-building and coaching engagement that strengthens collaboration, reinforces purpose-driven engagement, as a component of staff well-being and resilience.
Goal and objectives of the Assignment
To strengthen staff well-being, collaboration, and effectiveness within Search South Sudan and Sudan programs through an integrated team-building and personal purpose alignment engagement.
Specific Objectives
1.Strengthen Team Cohesion, Trust, and Cross-Office Collaboration
To build trust, mutual understanding, and effective collaboration among staff from the Sudan and South Sudan offices by creating a safe and inclusive space for dialogue, reflection, and joint team-building activities, enabling the teams to operate as one unified program aligned with Search’s mission and strategic objectives.
2.Support Staff Well-Being, Mental Resilience, and Personal Purpose Alignment
To enhance staff well-being by addressing stress, uncertainty, and fatigue arising from conflict, organisational change, and resource constraints, while equipping staff with practical tools for resilience, self-care, and peer support, and supporting reflection on how personal purpose aligns with Search’s mission, values, and long-term impact goals.
3.Reinforce a Respectful, Inclusive, and Values-Based Organisational Culture
To strengthen clarity around roles, communication practices, and shared objectives within the consolidated program, while reinforcing a respectful, inclusive, and accountable working environment consistent with Search’s Code of Conduct, Safeguarding policies, and organisational principles.
Scope of Work
The consultant will design and deliver a participatory, context-appropriate engagement program that supports team building among Sudan and South Sudan Searchers, provides tools for mental health self-assessment, and promotes mental well-being, with full consideration of Search’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policies and principles.
1.Team Building & Collaboration
- Conduct a brief assessment of team dynamics, collaboration challenges, and learning needs.
- Design and facilitate inclusive team-building activities that strengthen trust, communication, accountability, and collaboration across functions and locations.
- Promote respectful dialogue, constructive feedback, and conflict-sensitive engagement in line with Search’s values.
- Integrate principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging throughout all sessions.
2.Purpose Alignment & Engagement
- Facilitate reflective sessions on personal and professional purpose, values, and motivation within a peacebuilding and humanitarian context.
- Support staff to connect individual roles and responsibilities to Search’s mission, strategic priorities, and impact.
- Encourage adaptive leadership, resilience, and ethical decision-making in challenging operational environments.
3.Learning Materials & Documentation
- Develop accessible learning materials and tools that staff can continue to use beyond the engagement.
- Provide a concise end-of-assignment report summarizing activities, key learning outcomes, and recommendations to strengthen staff well-being and team effectiveness.
Methodology
The consultant is expected to apply participatory, adult-learning, and people-centred methodologies consistent with Search’s learning culture, including:
- Experiential and reflective learning approaches
- Guided dialogue and peer learning
- Case studies relevant to peacebuilding and humanitarian contexts
- Group problem-solving and collaborative exercises
Deliverables
- Inception note or detailed session plan aligned with Search’s People & Culture principles
- Facilitated team-building and purpose alignment.
- Learning and coaching materials (soft copies)
- End-of-assignment report with key insights and practical recommendations
Duration & Location
- Duration: 4 days
- Location: Malindi, Kenya.
- Modality: Primarily in-person, with optional virtual follow-up sessions if required.
Reporting & Coordination
The consultant will report to the People & Culture team for Search South Sudan and Sudan, working in close coordination with the Country Director to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and staff well-being policies.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Advanced degree or professional certification in organizational development, coaching, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating team-building and staff development initiatives in complex or fragile contexts.
- Experience in purpose-driven leadership, staff engagement, or organizational culture strengthening.
- Strong facilitation skills with diverse, multicultural, and cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with duty of care, staff well-being, and values-based organizational cultures.
- Experience Working with Multicultural, Cross-Border, and Hybrid Teams.

Contractual & Payment Terms

- Payment modality: Lump sum
