Result of Service
A1 – Collection and analysis of information A comprehensive, evidence-based dataset and analysis on DDT production, use, and alternatives compiled from authoritative sources to inform the assessment report, by 31 July 2026. A2 – Preparation of draft assessment report A structured draft assessment report presenting situational analysis, trends, evaluation of alternatives, country capacities, and initial conclusions and recommendations for expert review, by 31 August 2026. (approximately 30-40 pages with at least 10 graphs or tables) A3 – Finalization of the assessment report A finalized, high-quality assessment report incorporating expert feedback, with validated conclusions and actionable recommendations on DDT use and transition to alternatives, by 20 October 2026. B1 – Preparation and delivery of presentations Clear and informative presentations that effectively communicate the draft findings, updates, and key messages of the assessment report to support expert deliberations and decision-making during the online pre-meeting in August and during the eleventh expert group meeting in September 2026. C1 – Provide substantive support Expert technical input and active participation that enhance the quality of discussions, ensure accuracy of the assessment, and support consensus-building within the DDT expert group, by 30 October 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS Secretariat) bring together the three leading multilateral environmental agreements that share the common objective of protecting human health and the environment from hazardous chemicals and wastes. This consultancy is within the scope of further actions to address Stockholm Conventions POPs pesticides (DDT), PoW 22. In Decision SC-12/2 the COP is requesting the Secretariat to continue to support the process set out in annex I to decision SC-3/2. The consultant will contribute to the implementation of project activities by providing specialized subject-matter expertise on Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), public health, tropical epidemiology, entomology, and vector control. Under the supervision of the Programme Officer, the consultant will perform the following tasks: A) Assessment report: The consultant will collect and analyze relevant data and prepare a draft assessment report on the production and use of DDT and its alternatives, including draft conclusions and recommendations. B) Prepare and deliver presentations: Output B1 – Prepare and deliver presentations on the draft assessment report during the online pre-meeting and the 11th DDT expert group meeting. C) Provide substantive support in consultations and meetings Output C1 – Provide substantive support and inputs to the eleventh DDT expert group.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) on a subject related to public health, tropical epidemiology, entomology or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. • At least 7 years of experience in integrated vector management (IVM), public health, including extensive experience in working on DDT is required. • Specialized/technical knowledge regarding tropical epidemiology, entomology, vector control, and the use of DDT for disease vector control, alternatives to DDT, pesticide management or related areas are required. • Previous work in relation to the Stockholm Convention and familiarity with the work of the DDT expert group is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required.
