JOB FAMILY OVERVIEW
Designs, architects, and governs enterprise Audio Visual and Video Conferencing (AV/VC) solutions that enable seamless collaboration for a global workforce. Applies advanced technical knowledge across AV/VC systems design, room standards, control systems, and digital signal processing — ensuring that AV/VC infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and aligned to workforce experience outcomes.
Area of Focus: Infrastructure and Technology Engineering
Leads the end-to-end design and standards governance of AV/VC environments across a large, geographically distributed estate. Translate business collaboration requirements into scalable technical solutions — from concept and room taxonomy through design documentation, vendor evaluation, implementation oversight, and operational handoff.
UNIT BACKGROUND & CONTEXT
The Digital Workplace Experience unit (ITDX) sits within the ITS Digital Workplace Department (ITDW), which delivers end-user technology products and services to a global workforce of approximately 10,000 users across more than 100 countries. ITDX is accountable for device lifecycle management, Audio Visual and Video Conferencing (AV/VC) ecosystems, and live event production — governing the experience quality of those services through XLA frameworks and user experience measurement. Products and services span corporate PCs, printers, and mobile devices; AV/VC systems; and live production for high-profile organizational events.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Senior AV/VC Solutions Designer is responsible for the end-to-end design, standards development, and technical governance of the organization's global AV/VC estate — currently spanning approximately 1,400 rooms across more than 100 countries. With significant autonomy, this role leads the architecture of scalable, experience-driven AV/VC solutions across diverse space typologies — from huddle rooms and standard meeting rooms through divisible spaces, boardrooms, and large event venues. The incumbent ensures that AV/VC designs deliver consistent, high-quality collaboration experiences, aligned to enterprise standards, workforce needs, and technology lifecycle requirements.
SCOPE OF WORK
Senior specialist level:
•Performs advanced-level technical design and architecture in AV/VC systems engineering with significant autonomy
•Proposes solutions to complex, multi-site AV/VC design challenges — balancing technical standards, user experience, security, and cost considerations
•Seeks common ground and negotiates technical requirements and design standards with internal stakeholders, vendors, and implementation partners for leadership approval
•Provides technical guidance, mentoring, and quality assurance to junior AV/VC staff and implementation teams
•Requires mastery of professional knowledge across AV/VC design disciplines to lead complex, high-impact assignments independently
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
AV/VC Solutions Design and Architecture
•Leads end-to-end AV/VC system design across all room typologies — including huddle spaces, standard meeting rooms, divisible and combinable rooms, boardrooms, training facilities, and large event venues
•Develops and maintains enterprise AV/VC design standards, reference architectures, and room taxonomy frameworks that account for room acoustics, furniture layouts, user workflows, and collaboration requirements
•Produces detailed design documentation including system schematics, signal flow diagrams, equipment schedules, bills of materials, and as-built documentation
•Designs solutions across Cisco and Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) ecosystems — including control systems, digital signal processors (DSPs), AVoIP, display systems, cameras, microphones, and room sensors
•Evaluates and recommends AV/VC hardware and software platforms aligned to enterprise lifecycle, support, and budget considerations
•Incorporates occupancy detection, presence-based activation, and workspace intelligence capabilities into AV/VC designs — aligned to emerging M365 and Cisco Control Hub analytics requirements
Standards and Governance
•Owns and governs enterprise AV/VC design standards — ensuring consistency, scalability, and experience quality across the global estate
•Maintains and evolves the AV/VC room taxonomy — defining physical and design tier classifications across space typologies
•Leads design reviews and quality assurance processes for new and retrofitted AV/VC spaces — ensuring implementations meet functional, experience, and safety requirements prior to operational handoff
•Partners with the Experience Product Owner to align AV/VC design standards to XLA frameworks and DEX measurement requirements
Vendor and Implementation Oversight
•Manages relationships with AV/VC vendors, integrators, and implementation partners — including scope definition, design review, and delivery quality assurance
•Evaluates emerging AV/VC platforms and technologies — including smart building integrations, AI-enhanced collaboration tools, and monitoring solutions — and provides recommendations for adoption
•Provides technical oversight during installation and commissioning phases — resolving complex design and implementation issues prior to operational handoff
Stakeholder Engagement
•Engages with facilities, real estate, IT infrastructure, and security teams to integrate AV/VC design requirements into workplace planning and construction projects
•Communicates AV/VC design decisions, standards updates, and project status to leadership and business stakeholders
•Acts as the organization's subject matter expert on AV/VC design — providing technical guidance to project teams, business stakeholders, and senior leadership
Operational Support
•Provides third-level technical escalation for complex AV/VC issues — particularly for high-profile events, executive spaces, and multi-site deployments
•Contributes to AV/VC monitoring and alerting strategy — supporting proactive identification of experience degradation across the global estate
Selection Criteria
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Master’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant
experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant
experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale AV/VC solutions across diverse space typologies within a large, geographically distributed organization is required
•Demonstrated experience with Cisco AV/VC ecosystems — including Webex Devices, Control Hub, and Cisco room systems — is required
•Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Teams Rooms design, deployment, and management — including Teams Admin Center and Microsoft Pro Portal — is required
•Demonstrated experience producing professional AV/VC design documentation including system schematics, signal flow diagrams, and bills of materials is required
•Demonstrated experience in executive-level presentation and communicating complex technical design decisions as compelling narratives to senior leadership is required
•Experience with control systems programming (e.g., Crestron, AMX, Extron) and digital signal processing (DSP) configuration is strongly desired
•Familiarity with AVoIP protocols, networked AV architecture, and AV/IT convergence principles is strongly desired
•Experience with workspace intelligence tools — including occupancy sensors, presence detection, and room analytics platforms — is an advantage
•Experience evaluating and managing AV/VC vendor and integrator relationships in an enterprise environment is an asset
