Project Associate (Infrastructure)

Infrastructure is an operational unit within IOM Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The unit is integral to the Rohingya Refugee Response implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with funding from various international donors. Infrastructure Unit activities include site planning, medium-complexity infrastructure projects, primarily roads, bridges, health and community facilities and various types of site rehabilitation works, including drainage, pedestrian access, earth stabilisation and installation of solar street lighting throughout the camps and ‘out of camp’ sites in Cox’s Bazar District, Bangladesh.
Under the overall supervision of the Infrastructure Coordinator and direct supervision of the Project Officer (Infrastructure), the incumbent will assist the field implementation of the programme’s activities including but not limited to regular rehabilitation works, reconstruction, enhancement, and retrofitting of existing Solar Street Lights, Lightning Arresters, maintenance of Nano Grids, Safe Disposal of e-waste, construction of Multi-Purpose Service Centres (MPSCs) and other facilities inside the camp areas and in host communities. S/he will work closely with different team members within the unit and coordinate with other relevant units within IOM. S/he will support execution of community-based rehabilitation/ reconstruction/enhancement/retrofitting works.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Officer (Infrastructure) with the development of sketch designs and technical drawings of small to medium scale community building projects by using computer- aided drawing software (CAD).
• Assist the Project Officer (Infrastructure) with the development of 3D views by using 3D modelling software.
• Assist Project Officer (Infrastructure) on conducting research on materials, construction techniques, and building systems to inform design decisions.
• Contribute to the development of maps for small to large scale areas, with the guidance of the Project Officer (Infrastructure), by using Geographic Information System software.
• Collaborate closely with engineers and other team members throughout all phases of a project.
• Support the Project Officer (Infrastructure) in gathering necessary information and documentation for the preparation of project reports and presentations.
• Maintain accurate and organized project documentation.
• Prioritize safety in architectural designs and ensure that projects comply with health and safety regulations.
• Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

• School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or,
• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant experience;.

Experience

• Experience in the usage of CAD, 3D modelling software is required.
• Experience in construction design is required.
• Experience in using GIS software and mapping is an advantage.
• Experience with International Organizations and/or NGOs is an advantage.

Skills

• In depth knowledge of computer- aided drawing software (CAD)
• In depth knowledge of 3D modelling computer-aided design software (SketchUp)
• Knowledge of Geographic Information System software (GIS) is desirable.

Languages

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, fluency in English and Bangla is required (oral and written).

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
