CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Pharmacy assistant is responsible for supporting MHT on the safe and appropriate storage and dispensing of medicines through regular field visits and supportive supervision. This may come through trainings, observations and development of country-specific operating procedures. In addition, s/he will be responsible for maintaining an overview of Save the Children’s emergency buffer pharmaceuticals stock, and will ensure that it is appropriately dispatched and replenished using donor funds. Where appropriate, s/he may be requested to advice on medical cases. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Field Level Pharmaceutical Support
• Regular travel to the provinces (with mahram, if female) to support project and health facility staff on the safe and effective storage of pharmaceuticals.
• Raise awareness of Save the Children’s global standard operating procedures with regard to medical warehousing through trainings, guidance and coaching to project staff, warehousing staff and field teams.
• Support the team to appropriately expand warehousing facilities where required and where budget is available.
• Support the quality monitoring of field-level activities through regular contact (with field monitoring reports written that contain constructive feedback).
• Provide the supportive supervision to MHTs, supporting the dispensers in ensuring good dispensing practices are adhered to as per SCI standards.
• Conduct drug use evaluation at HFs level, share the feedback with the H&N team & follow up action points.
• Participate in a monthly rational prescription audit, quarterly PSS tool with the multidisciplinary team, nurses, doctors & H&N managers, and follow up action plans from findings.
• Mentor & provide coaching to dispensers on key pharmacy services standards required to improve good dispensing practices.
• Any other relevant roles & duties that might be assigned by your line manager (Pharmacy officer).
Management and Growth of Pharmaceutical Buffer Stock
• To make sure that the pharmacy standards are respected at provincial warehouse.
• To ensure pharmacovigilance including the immediate report of any problem with the quality of a drug in accordance with SCI & Afghanistan procedures.
• Technically check-up of medical equipment to ensure product quality.
• Preparation of distribution plan for the pharmaceuticals, medical consumables and medical equipment based on average monthly consumption and needs.
• Data entry in monthly pharmaceuticals and consumption database regularly.
• Monitor stock levels on the Total Inventory Management (TIM) system.
Other
• Contribute to a positive working atmosphere that equally respects the rights of men and women.
• Raise awareness of Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding and Code of Conduct policy.
• Report any potential Child Safeguarding and/or PSEA cases once encountered.

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduated from recognized pharmacy faculty or institute.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
• Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto
• Competent in use of Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• 2 years of experience in pharmacy, especially in BPHS.
• Understanding of common medical warehousing standards
• Experience in capacity development and delivery of trainings
• Ability and willingness to travel often
• Self-starter with positive attitude
• Female candidates are encouraged to apply
Desirable
• Intermediate skills in English
• Previous experience in NGOs, UN agencies and/or donors
• Previous experience travelling to and working in insecure areas
• Existing working relationships with MoPH, WFP and NMHRA
• Previous experience in budget management within a non-profit agency
