The Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) department is one of IFC’s key industry groups responsible for a significant portion of IFC’s business volume, profitability, and development reach. MAS operates across a wide range of sub-sectors, including manufacturing, chemicals, healthcare, education, property, retail, tourism, agribusiness, and forestry, among others, providing investment and advisory services delivered globally to IFC’s clients through its global network. These sectors represent a significant share of economic activity and are central to job creation and sustainable growth.

MAS Latin America and the Caribbean and Europe (MAS LAC Europe) is seeking to recruit an Investment Officer – Portfolio, Data and AI Transformation Lead to collaborate on MAS LAC Europe current ~US$11.2 billion portfolio, while driving the adoption of data and AI to enhance efficiency, risk management, and decision-making across both portfolio management and new business.
Duties and Accountabilities
A. Portfolio Oversight & Risk Management
• Active portfolio management. Participates in the oversight of portfolio performance, including credit quality, profitability, E&S compliance, development impact, and climate alignment.
• Proactively provide data-driven portfolio monitoring reports and ad hoc analyses by combining IFC's rating methodologies and other internal data sources with external data to track portfolio trends, identify emerging risks and recommend timely actions.
• Oversee portfolio actions (waivers, consents, restructurings, equity exits, etc.), ensuring consistency and quality of decision-making.
• Lead portfolio reviews and management reporting, including risk trends, stress tests, watchlists, equity valuations, NPLs, and adequacy of individual loss reserves.
• Portfolio credit rating reviews and team support. Participates in the timely review of credit ratings and related portfolio actions to maintain quality and consistency across the portfolio. Support investment and portfolio teams in their assessments and rating submissions, including guiding junior staff and building analytical and data literacy capability across the team.
• Investment and risk assessment. Support teams and the Chair on new transactions, particularly small transactions, providing efficient, high-quality assessment of financial and non-financial risk and helping assign and substantiate credit and facility ratings, in line with IFC's risk appetite, policies, and procedures.
B. AI & Data-Driven Transformation
• Lead the responsible deployment of AI and automation to enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality across the investment lifecycle.
• Drive adoption of AI in:
o Financial spreading and data extraction
o Credit and risk analysis
o Portfolio monitoring, dashboards, and reporting
o Preparation of investment documentation and internal analysis
• Ensure AI solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with IFC standards, including model governance, explainability, and bias controls.
• Act as a focal point for data analytics and AI working groups across-regional initiatives, promoting knowledge sharing and consistent approaches.
• AI for efficiency across the cycle. Lead the responsible use of AI and automation to improve efficiency and quality in both investment processing and portfolio management, automating data extraction, financial spreading, and routine analysis and reporting, and supporting investment analysis and risk assessment so officers can focus their time on judgment.
C. Client Management & Portfolio Optimization
• Manage key client relationships and lead restructurings, rescheduling, and complex portfolio situations.
• Minimize NPLs and optimize portfolio risk-return profile.
• Oversee equity portfolio performance, including valuations, ratings, exits, and governance.
D. Innovation, Knowledge & Capability Building
• Mentor junior staff and strengthen analytical, data, and AI literacy across the team
• Promote best practices in portfolio management, AI use, and investment analysis
• Contribute to knowledge sharing across MAS LAC Europe and global MAS teams
E. Compliance & Governance
• Ensure adherence to IFC policies, procedures, and portfolio scorecard metrics
• Coordinate with ESG, legal, insurance, and governance teams to address portfolio risks and compliance gaps
Selection Criteria
Core Investment & Portfolio Expertise
• Master's or equivalent qualification
• At least 12 years of experience in investment operations with a strong track record in debt and equity transactions
• Deep knowledge of IFC processes, portfolio management, and credit risk frameworks
• Proven ability to exercise sound credit judgment and independent decision-making
AI, Data & Analytical Capability
• Strong experience using structured and unstructured data to support investment and portfolio management decisions
• Hands-on experience in automation, data analytics, and dashboarding (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
• Demonstrated application of AI tools (including generative AI and NLP) in:
o Credit and investment analysis
o Risk assessment and monitoring
o Document preparation and workflow efficiency
• Understanding of model governance, validation, explainability, and risk controls
Leadership & Collaboration
• Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to work across regions and functions, influencing the adoption of new tools and approaches
• Track record of mentoring and developing staff
• Ability to guide, advise, mentor, and coach junior staff and peers to develop and broaden their scope of skills, including providing on-the-job learning opportunities. Critical for FCS and other challenging markets.
• Genuine commitment to sustainable development and to the highest ethical standards.
