Background
Following the approval of the expanded role of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) as the SOFF Technical Authority for the period 1 July 2026–30 June 2027, the WMO Technical Authority is expected to provide significantly enhanced technical support to SOFF beneficiary countries and operational partners during the Investment Phase. The expanded role includes strengthened technical reviews of Investment Funding Requests, technical backstopping, operation of a technical helpdesk, knowledge management, coordination with WMO regional structures, and development of technical guidance and learning materials.
To support these additional activities and improve the efficiency of the Technical Authority team, an intern is requested to assist with coordination, documentation, knowledge management, data tracking, preparation of technical materials, and organization of meetings and training activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the WMO Technical Authority Coordinator and in close collaboration with the SOFF Secretariat, the intern will:
· Support the coordination and tracking of technical review processes for SOFF Investment Funding Requests and related technical documents.
· Assist in maintaining the Technical Authority helpdesk by organizing incoming requests, tracking responses and maintaining records.
· Support the preparation, editing and formatting of technical guidance notes, templates, presentations and knowledge products.
· Assist in organizing technical meetings, webinars, workshops and consultations with SOFF partners.
· Support the maintenance of Technical Authority knowledge repositories, databases and document libraries.
· Assist in preparing communication materials highlighting Technical Authority activities and achievements.
· Perform other related duties as required.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Studies, International Development, or another relevant discipline.
Experience:
· Experience in preparing documents, reports or presentations.
· Experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
· Experience in using Microsoft 365 apps such as Planner and Lists is desirable.
· Experience in organizing meetings or supporting project coordination is desirable.
· Familiarity with meteorological observations or climate and development programmes would be an advantage.
Other Requirements:
· Strong analytical and organizational skills.
· Excellent attention to detail.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international environment.
· Interest in international development, meteorology and climate services.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written). Knowledge of another official WMO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) would be an advantage.

Work programme:
The internship is expected to last six months (with the possibility of extension subject to organizational needs and performance). The intern will contribute to the following work streams: · Technical Authority support for SOFF implementation. · Knowledge management and documentation. · Technical helpdesk support. · Monitoring and reporting. · Preparation of technical guidance materials. · Organization of technical meetings, webinars and workshops. · Support for coordination with WMO regional technical structures and SOFF operational partners.
Learning component of the internship:
· International programme implementation within the United Nations system. · WMO technical regulations and best practices on meteorological observation. · SOFF implementation. · Project monitoring, reporting and knowledge management. · Coordination with international experts, National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), development partners and regional organizations. · Preparation of technical guidance documents and learning materials. · Organization of stakeholder engagement.
Probation
Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
