How can you make a difference?
In consultation with UNICEF, the consultant will undertake the following tasks:
▪Prepare an inception report with a detailed methodology and workplan for supporting the WASH conflict analysis, ensuring alignment with all 4 targeted countries and global WASH sector goals, UNICEF and global strategic frameworks as well as national priorities.
▪Undertake a desk review on existing frameworks and strategies, WASH assessments, conflict analyses, peacebuilding strategies, and humanitarian and development frameworks relevant to targeted countries. Key resources include UNICEF Countries Programme Document, National Water and Sanitation Policies and strategies, WASH Strategy, UNICEF’s Game Plans for Water and Sanitation. UNICEF will provide the resources for the consultant to conduct a literature review.
▪Based on the literature review and consultations with relevant staff at the Centre for Excellence and targeted Country Offices, develop and implement tailored capacity development and technical support strategies to ensure uptake of the planned WASH Conflict and Peace Analyses’ findings and the integration of conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding approaches into UNICEF-supported WASH programming in the targeted countries.
▪Develop actionable and practical recommendations for integrating conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding approaches into WASH programming across the whole cycle, from design and planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. The recommendations should highlight programmatic entry points, approaches, practices, tools and strategies where WASH programming can promote community resilience to conflict and social cohesion and strengthen conflict resolution and peacebuilding capacities of WASH sector stakeholders and participating communities.
Reporting directly to the WASH Specialist, WASH in Emergency and Fragile Contexts, and working in close collaboration with Chief of WASH in the targeted ASWA III countries, the consultant will:
1. Support targeted COs in the development and implementation of context-relevant, participatory, and WASH-focused conflict and peace analyses (CPAs)
2.Develop and implement related capacity development to support the integration of conflict sensitive planning and peacebuilding approaches into the WASH sector at both national and sub-national levels.
3.Identify opportunities for WASH programmes to support conflict resolution, peacebuilding efforts, inclusion, social cohesion and stability.
4.Develop practical recommendations, approaches, guidance, practices, and tools for UNICEF and partners to integrate conflict sensitivity (as well as gender equality, disability, and social inclusion, highlighting the needs of children) into WASH programme design, implementation, and monitoring and reporting.

Minimum requirements:
Education: An advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in one of the following fields: Conflict & peace studies or Research methods
Work Experience: At least 5 years of experience in developing and implementing conflict analysis in conflict-affected, fragile states.
Skills : Knowledge of WASH-related conflict and peace dynamics required
Language Requirements: Fluent in English
Desirables: Fluent in French
