The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;

b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or

c) are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.

d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.

e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In 1990, IOM established its presence and conducted its first operation in Jordan, after which Jordan joined IOM as a member state in 1999. Today, after more than three decades of official presence in the country, the organization continues to provide direct assistance and work together with a range of UN and NGO partners to support the Government of Jordan to fulfil its commitments towards migrants, refugees, and host communities in accordance with national priorities, as well as regional and global commitments and processes, including the Global Compact on Migration (GCM). IOM implements a diverse portfolio of programming in Jordan, including projects related to labour mobility and social inclusion, public health, refugee assistance, resettlement operations, family reunification, access to justice, and climate change and resilience. The mission also supports several regional resettlement and health programmes, as well as provides backstopping for the IOM response to the crisis in Gaza. SUPERVISION
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes and the direct supervision of the Public Health Officer, the Intern - Public Health will support the implementation and coordination of public health activities under IOM Jordan’s Country Programme. They will assist in conducting research and desk reviews on topics related to migrant and refugee inclusive health systems, climate change and health, border health, and universal health coverage, through available reports, assessments, and data from national authorities, UN agencies, and other partners.

The Intern - Public Health will also support the collection, organization, and analysis of relevant information and programme data to contribute to project development, reporting, and coordination activities. In addition, the Intern will assist in liaising with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, Jordan Centre for Disease Control (JCDC), Royal Medical Services (RMS), the World Health Organization (WHO), and other partners involved in public health interventions targeting vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations in Jordan. The Intern may also support the organization and coordination of trainings, workshops, and awareness activities led by the Public Health team, including engagement and coordination with relevant stakeholders, partners, and government counterparts.

Responsibilities

1. Conduct desk research on migration health, public health, climate change and health, and humanitarian issues relevant to IOM Jordan’s Public Health Unit, including reviewing reports, assessments, and policies from national and international stakeholders.
2. Collect, organize, and summarize qualitative and quantitative information related to migrant and refugee-inclusive health systems, border health, health service provision, and other ongoing public health interventions in Jordan.
3. Assist in the preparation of programme documents, donor reports, presentations, training materials, meeting minutes, and other knowledge and communication products.
4. Support stakeholder mapping and coordination with government counterparts, UN agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and other partners involved in public health activities.
5. Support the organization and follow-up of trainings, workshops, meetings, and awareness activities, including coordination with stakeholders and logistical preparations
6. Provide administrative, logistical, research, and reporting support to the Public Health team, including support to monitoring and communication activities.
7. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

1. The Intern will gain experience in working in an international multicultural environment, within the United Nations system.
2. Gain experience in organization, management, and international cooperation activities.
3. Gain a better understanding of IOM's work, as an inter-governmental organization in the field ofMigration, and work on formulating and editing institutional strategies, priorities and workplans.
4. The Intern will acquire technical knowledge and experience on disability inclusion issues, and on global coordination mechanisms, in particular humanitarian clusters.
5. The Intern can also access online training courses at the disposal of all IOM staff.
6. The Intern will have the possibility to interact with IOM staff within Headquarters and IOM Missions.

Qualifications

Education
Applicants must satisfy one of the following educational criteria:

• Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) in Public Health, International Relations, Political or Social Sciences, Humanitarian Affairs, Economic Development or any other relevant area from an accredited institution; or,
• Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or graduated within the last 12 months with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Public Health, International Relations, Political or Social Sciences, Humanitarian Affairs, Economic Development or any other relevant area from an accredited institution.

Experience

• Previous academic, volunteer, or internship experience in public health, migration, humanitarian assistance, or community-based activities is an advantage;
• Experience in supporting research, drafting and editing reports, presentations, or communication materials related to public health or humanitarian topics is desirable;
• Experience from a UN agency, International Organization (IO), Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), university project, or student initiative is considered an advantage;
• Previous exposure to project support activities, event organization, stakeholder coordination, or monitoring and reporting is an asset;
• Knowledge and/or experience related to the Middle East region is an advantage.

Skills

• Interest in migration health, public health, humanitarian assistance, climate change and health, and refugee or migrant-inclusive health systems;
• Good research, analytical, and organizational skills, including the ability to collect and summarize information from different sources;
• Good drafting and communication skills;
• Proven ability to work effectively in multicultural and diverse environments;
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate with different stakeholders and partners;
• Good command of Microsoft Office applications is required, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
• Knowledge of data management and reporting tools is an advantage.

Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Notes

Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.

IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
