Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs. This position is located in the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Cabo Verde. The internship is UNPAID and full-time for the duration of either a minimum internship period of 3 months of full-time engagement, and 4 months for part-time. Interns work at least 35 hours per week/ 5 days a week for full-time or 2.5 days a week for part-time internship, reporting for work in the office with the possibility of remote work arrangements. This intern works under the supervision of Partnership and Development Finance Officer and will support the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO). The intern will gain first-hand experience with regard to the activities of the UN Country Team through the RCO team in facilitating dialogues with partners, including with Government, the private sector, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders, to improve development assistance policies and practice. Responsibilities: • Assist in drafting and preparing official documents, correspondence, briefing notes, concept notes, and internal coordination materials. • Develop presentations, infographics, visual briefs, and other communication products for RCO meetings, partnerships, and external engagements. • Produce minutes, summary reports, and action trackers from meetings, conferences, workshops, and consultations. • Support planning, coordination, and logistical preparations for RCO events, partnership meetings, and consultations. • Support social media outreach and broader communication efforts related to partnerships and normative themes. • Conduct background research and support data collection, synthesis, and presentation related to partnerships and normative priorities, including gender equality initiatives. • Support maintenance of partnership databases, stakeholder mappings, contact lists, and tracking of commitments and follow-up actions. • Support implementation of the RCO’s normative workplan and inter-agency engagement related to normative priorities. • Support other ad hoc activities as deemed relevant and needed by the supervisor.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Preferred area of study: Advanced university studies or recent degree completion in one or more of the following areas: International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, Economics, Public Administration, Communication, International Development, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences or Business Administration. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English is required for this internship. Knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese would be desirable.
