Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold new global reform that repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently in support of the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator - the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at the country level - support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs. This internship is in the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in San Salvador, El Salvador, specifically intended for a young student with a physical disability, contributing to inclusive participation and equal access to professional development opportunities. The intern reports to the Partnership and Resource Mobilization Officer in the RCO and will last 4-6 months. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. Under the direct supervision of the Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Officer, the intern will be integrated into the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) and contribute to key processes that support interagency coordination, strategic planning, and financing for development. The internship is designed as a formative, immersive experience that provides the intern with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the United Nations system and its collaborative work across agencies and stakeholders. The intern will support the following areas of work: • Contribute to the organization and systematization of interagency and multi-stakeholder meetings, promoting coherence and joint action across UN entities. • Assist in the coordination and follow-up of interagency initiatives aligned with the UN Cooperation Framework and national development priorities. • Support research and the development of knowledge products and tools related to innovative financing, including concept notes, briefs, and bulletins. • Assist in the consultation processes for strategic planning exercises, including the Country Analysis, by compiling and organizing relevant inputs. • Contribute to the design and implementation of resource mobilization strategies, including support to pooled funding mechanisms. Through these tasks, the intern will strengthen their analytical, organizational, and communication skills, while gaining practical experience in the UN’s integrated programming and partnership-building approaches.
