How can you make a difference?

The Immunization (EPI) Specialist is accountable for providing professional leadership and contributing to the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and administration of the Immunization programme, in conjunction with Child Survival and Development, Maternal and Child Health, and Health and Nutrition components within the country programme, to achieve UNICEF’s immunization-plus goals and objectives.
The role is also accountable for ensuring that the UNICEF Immunization programme promotes gender equality, with an emphasis on gender-disaggregated data, identification of disparities, and gender mainstreaming.

Key functions/accountabilities:

1. Timely sectoral analysis, input, support and coordination contribute to the Situation Analysis with consistent integration of sex disaggregated data and its periodic update for effective project planning, development and management
2. Development and implementation of immunization strategies in collaboration with partners
3. Work planning, objective setting, and technical leadership to achieve results
4. Monitoring and evaluation of programme implementation to improve delivery and sustainability
5. Technical support to government and NGOs, including capacity building
6. Capacity building of Country Office staff in programme management and implementation
7. Financial management and accountability for programme funds and resources
8. Partnerships, advocacy, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders
9. Information management and monitoring systems to support programme performance
10. Preparation of programme reports in line with guidelines and procedures
11. Emergency preparedness and response coordination in humanitarian contexts
12. Other assigned duties and responsibilities are effectively performed.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

• Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in one of the following fields is required: public health, epidemiology, public administration, paediatric health, child development, child health, nutrition, social policy, social development, or community development.
• Work Experience: A minimum of five years of professional work experience at the national or international levels in planning, programming, implementation monitoring and evaluation of health/immunization programmes is required. Professional work experience in a technical expert position related to child survival & health care is required.

Developing country work experience and background or familiarity with emergencies is required.

• Skills: Experience in immunization programmes, public health, epidemiological analysis, programme management, data analysis, or health systems is required.
• Language Requirements: Proficiency in English is required.

Desirables:

• Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
• Experience in working in emergency settings, UN systems, health financing, multi-sectoral programmes, training programmes or epidemiological modelling is desirable.
• Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts is desirable.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF.
