Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. Development Coordination Office (DCO) provides managerial and oversight functions for the Resident Coordinator system. It is based in New York, with regional teams in Addis Ababa, Amman, Bangkok, Istanbul and Panama, supporting 130 Resident Coordinators covering 162 countries and territories. At the regional level, DCO serves as first port of call for Resident Coordinators and their offices. The Resident Coordinator system is focused on the advancement of sustainable development, leaving no one behind, and with the eradication of poverty in all its forms and dimensions as an overarching objective, consistent with the integrated nature of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This position is in the regional office of DCO in Bangkok. The internship is UNPAID and full-time for the duration of three (3) months with an opportunity for extension up to (6) six months if required by the office. Interns work five days per week (35 hours). This intern will report to the Team Lead and will support the regional office. This internship will offer a valuable opportunity to gain hands on experience in an HR environment and contribute to impactful projects that shape the future of HR practices within the organization. We are seeking a proactive and self-motivated HR intern to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, possess strong problem-solving skills and have a keen interest in leveraging technology in HR processes. Daily responsibilities will vary and depend on the individual's background, including but not limited to: • Working closely with the regional HR focal point and HR team in NY on various projects, including utilizing Power Automate and other HR technologies to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency. • Conducting research and potential partnerships and innovative HR solutions to support forward-thinking initiatives within the organization. • Supporting various administrative tasks, data analysis, reporting and documentation. • Participating in HR projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing employee experience, talent development and organizational effectiveness. • Supporting the disability-inclusion aspects of common services solutions, in the context of the SG’s Efficiency Initiatives in UN business operations; Identifying and engaging with persons with disabilities and disability experts; Advocating for disability inclusive practices with RCOs. • Assisting with communication materials; coordinating with different stakeholders. • Support the team other/ad hoc activities, including on technical, logistical, and administrative requirements as needed (e.g., planning meetings/workshops, event coordination). • All other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint. Strong aptitude for technology and proficiency in Power Automate and AI tools. Excellent research skills and ability to gather and analyze information.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Additional Information
This internship is for a minimum 3 and maximum of 6 months and designed to be remote and part-time (<34 hours per week). The duration and modality can be adjusted on request of the successful candidate.
