1. Context
Search for Common Ground (Search) is piloting an initiative on digital peacebuilding for the Haitian context. As part of this pilot program, Search will conduct research, including qualitative data collection and analysis, with stakeholders within Haiti (remote) and the Haitian diaspora in the US and Canada, with a focus on Haiti’s (social) media landscape, dis/misinformation risks, and opportunities for positive discourse.
To support these efforts, Search is looking for a fellow who can support identifying and connecting with relevant stakeholders within Haiti and the Haitian diaspora in the US and Canada, conducting interviews and data analysis with target individuals, including in Haitian Creole, and supporting social media analysis.
2. Objectives of the Consultancy
The objectives of the consultancy include:
- Creating a contact list of relevant Haitian civil society, media actors, and online influencers that can contribute to the research and to small grants.
- Conduct or support in the realization of 20 interviews of stakeholders in Haiti or in the diaspora.
- Support in conducting social media analysis, including identifying relevant social media accounts to follow, lexicons that are relevant, and scraping accounts.
- Support with translation and analysis of documents or content in Haitian creole.
3. Geographic Location
The consultancy can be conducted remotely, from the US or Canada. The main interlocutors of the consultant(s) will be based in the United States, Canada, and Haiti. The consultant might be required to travel to the US or Canada to support in-person interviews or workshops.
4. Deliverables
Search expects the following deliverables from the applicant:
- A contact list of relevant Haitian civil society, media actors, and online influencers that can contribute to the research and to small grants.
- Transcript and key analysis points produced for 20 interviews of stakeholders in Haiti or in the diaspora.
- A list of social media accounts, groups, etc. that are influential in terms of discourse and narratives on peace and security in Haiti.
- A lexicon of terms needed for social media analysis.
- Conducting data collection on social media to support the production of a social media analysis snapshot.
- Ongoing translation and contextual analysis support, with a focus on content in Haitian Creole, to support the production of written products (micro-campaign reports, donor reports, etc.).
- Potential support with interpretation, note taking or small group facilitation in Haitian Creole as needed for in-person or online workshops.
5. Requirements of the Consultant(s)
The applicant must possess the following qualifications and capabilities to successfully undertake the consultancy:
- Knowledge of the Haitian social media landscape and popular influencers.
- Existing relationships or networks that can be activated among relevant and diverse Haitian civil society, media actors, and online influencers that shape discourse and narratives related to peace and security in Haiti, including within the diaspora in the US and Canada.
- Experience conducting research or analysis related to peace and security dynamics in Haiti. Experience conducting this type of research or analysis on social media platforms is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, and especially analytical writing skills.
- Primary fluency/bilingual proficiency in Haitian Creole.
- Ability to travel within the US or Canada.
6. Timeline and Budget
Applicants are requested to submit an hourly rate and specify the number of hours per week they are available for. The consultancy is contingent upon funding. The funding is expected to be secured in March. The consultancy period will last 6 to 9 months, from March to November 2026. The consultant is expecting to work between 20-30 hours per week.
