The Opportunity – Gaza Nutrition Programme Officer.
Post location: Gaza Field Office.
Contract Duration and Level of Effort: 12 months.
ROLE PURPOSE:
Under overall guidance and supervision of the Health and Nutrition Programme Manager and Nutrition Coordinator, the Nutrition Officer will support the day-to-day implementation of all nutrition activities implemented by Save the Children. He/she will oversee teams in three Nutrition Sites, which includes Nutrition Counsellors, CMAM Nurse & Community Engagement Workers. The Nutrition Officer will provide technical support to the team and ensure the nutrition services delivered to pregnant women, caregivers of children under 2 and children under 5 and good quality and according to national protocols and guidelines/protocols developed by the nutrition cluster. The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for the reporting for their assigned Nutrition Sites and overall running of and accountability for the Nutrition Sites.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Gaza Nutrition Programme Coordinator.
Staff reporting to this post: CMAM Nurses, Nutrition Counsellors, Community Engagement Workers.
Budget Responsibilities: None.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Responsible for the day-to-day implementation of all nutrition activities at the nutrition facilities and communities.
- Support SCI and partners to establish IYCF corner/Mother baby area in targeted shelters and health centres.
- Provide technical support on IYCF and CMAM for counsellors, health workers, nurses and partner staff in the IDP shelters/ health facility to make sure save the Children is supporting partners to provide quality nutrition services.
- Ensure partner staff and health workers use national guidelines/SOP/Guidelines developed by nutrition cluster to provide quality nutrition services.
- Make sure availability of adequate nutrition IEC materials in health facilities/IDP shelters supported by Save the Children.
- Conduct regular field visits to provide on the job training for MBA nutrition staff, CEW and partner’s nutrition staff.
- Use standard supervision checklist to monitor and evaluate the quality of nutrition Services.
- Facilitate cross-sectoral programming, particularly to promote excellent communication and referral between different programs such as IYCF-E, management of wasting, child friendly space, health, food distribution, WASH etc.
- Prepare and share regular reports with the Nutrition Coordinator.
- Attend training and teams meeting as requested.
- Perform other duties related to nutrition assigned by supervisor.
- Effective collaboration and coordination with nutrition clusters, UN agencies, NGOs and MoH.
- Ensure timely nutrition data collection and reporting in collaboration with MEAL and MBA nutrition staff.
In order to be successful, you will bring/have:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.Sc. in Nutrition, Public Health, Pharmacy, Nursing or Midwifery.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Essential
- 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
- A good understanding of CMAM & IYCF programme.
- Excellent interpersonal skill and able to work in a multicultural team.
- Motivated and prepared to work in nutrition sites in challenging conditions.
- Ability to communicate with the conflict affected population.
- Experience of working with NGO.
- Experience in individual/group counselling.
- Proven ability to write clear, concise, and high-quality reports.
- Good written and spoken English.
