Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of Office and UNESCO Representative to Sudan in coordination with the Regional Security Officer, the Local Security Assistant assists in the implementation of security operations and all matters relating to safety and security for UNESCO personnel in the Sudan office
a) liaising and coordinating with UNDSS, other UN agencies and the local government security organisations;
b) Assist in maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists;
c) Support with the checking and following up on the implementation of the Security Risk Management measures at the duty station;
d) Assess the security situation at the duty station; and provide updates to the UNESCO Head of Office in coordination with UNESCO Field Security.
e) Assist in identifying Emergency Communications equipment needs.
f) Conduct security evaluations and provide advice on security measures for the residences of UNESCO staff and UNESCO offices;
g) Assist in organising training courses on security issues/awareness and preparedness;
h) Support actions during the implementation of the Security Plan, as required
i) Maintain routine and confidential correspondence files/documents.
j) Following up on access control of UNESCO offices, in different locations in the country.
k) Supporting field missions as required.
l) Maintain a database of all security incidents and complete reports as required;
m) Assist in conducting security & safety-related investigations, in coordination with the Head of Office and UNESCO Field Security.
n) Assist in responding to emergencies/crises that may involve UNESCO operations, staff and assets;
o) Keep records of the issuance and return of UNESCO ID cards;
p) Other security tasks assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experiance
• A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in security, ideally within the military, police, or a related field. Prior experience within the United Nations system is highly desirable.
• Field Security Associate (FSA) certification is strongly preferred and considered an asset.
Language requirements
Fluency in Arabic and English is required.
