Duties and Responsibilities
UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Communication Division communicates UNEP's core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UNEP worldwide. Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Head of Multimedia, the Expert Multimedia Producer will perform the following duties: • Conceive and develop original multimedia story concepts, treatments and production approaches for UNEP's priority campaigns and global events. • Translate complex environmental and scientific issues into engaging, accessible and visually compelling multimedia stories for diverse global audiences. • Executive produce complex multimedia projects from concept through to final delivery, ensuring high production values and strong editorial coherence. • Direct filming in a range of international environments, including high-level interviews, documentary sequences, field reporting and pieces to camera. • Apply advanced expertise in cinematography, lighting, audio recording and visual composition to produce broadcast-quality content. • Edit long- and short-form video products, integrating graphics, animation, sound design and colour grading to maximise audience engagement across platforms. • Develop immersive and innovative storytelling products for emerging platforms, including spatial video, digital-first formats and partner distribution channels. • Produce platform-specific versions of multimedia content for broadcast, web, social media and third-party media partners. • Exercise independent editorial judgement to identify compelling stories, visual opportunities and creative approaches during field assignments. • Collaborate closely with programme specialists, scientists, communications officers and external partners to ensure factual accuracy while maintaining strong storytelling. • Apply innovative production techniques and emerging technologies to expand the reach and impact of UNEP's multimedia content. • Ensure all multimedia outputs meet UNEP's editorial, branding, accessibility and technical standards. • Deliver complete production packages, including edited masters, project files, captions, transcripts and metadata suitable for archive and future reuse. • Work independently on complex assignments, often under tight deadlines and in demanding operational environments, while maintaining consistently high creative and technical standards.
Qualifications/special skills
An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in media management, video production, communications, or related field is required. A first-level university degree, combined with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. At least seven years of experience working in multimedia production, film making and/or video for high-quality platforms. Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and other Creative Suite software is required Familiarity with 360 films and short-form video productions for social media use. Prior experience in the international arena, familiarity with the work of the UN is requried Prior experience shooting video and still photography on DSLR cameras and audio recording experience is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required.
