The Corporate Accounting Department performs a vital function for Mercy Corps globally, interacting with all other departmental functions of the Agency to provide meaningful financial information to employees, management, donors, and regulators. Corporate Accounting works closely with the International Finance Department to provide monthly consolidation of over 30 countries and several subsidiaries’ financial information. Corporate Accounting generates Mercy Corps' Europe consolidated audited financial statements and supports other external financial reports. Mercy Corps Netherlands (MCNL) was established in December 2017. MCNL, Mercy Corps Europe (MCE) and Mercy Corps Global (MCG) operate as one global organization, sharing the same mission, vision, core values and charitable objectives, as well as operational resources for the support and implementation of programme activities.
The Corporate Accounting Manager will support optimizing the accounting and finance function at Mercy Corps Headquarters in Europe. The role is responsible for daily operations of the accounting team and the monthly closing process for our consolidated accounts. The role provides valuable support in relation to regulatory and donor requirements for Mercy Corps in the Netherlands.

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.
● BA/BS in accounting or related field or equivalent work experience is required. Active ACCA (or the equivalent) license is preferred.
● 5 -7 years of financial management experience is required. Payroll accounting, accounts payable, budgeting, financial reporting and administration experience required.
● Demonstrated knowledge of FRS 102, NL, IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) not-for-profit GAAP, accounting systems, and accounting software is required.
● Demonstrated knowledge of the Dutch operational environment, including charity regulatory requirements (such as CBF, ANBI) and banking environment.
● Ideally demonstrated knowledge of ECHO donor compliance requirements and experience with ECHO ex ante and periodic assessments.
● Analytical ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, assess risks and make strategic recommendations to management
● Strong Microsoft Office product skills are required.
● Proven success in process improvement.
● Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills.
● Demonstrated capability in working collaboratively.
● Fluent English and Dutch language required
A successful Accounting Manager will be a team player and employ effective management skills, manage priorities, and work with many individuals including international staff. Additionally, the Accounting Manager will have strong analytical skills, pay attention to detail, and be able to communicate financial information in a succinct, organized manner.
The most successful Mercy Corps team members have a positive approach, a strong commitment to teamwork, personal accountability, flexibility and maintain a sense of humor.
Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
The position is based in the Netherlands. There is no relocation allowance available for this position.
Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/short term assignment to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values always and in all in-country venues.
