Background
This position is located in the Office of the Chief of Staff. The focus of this position is to support the implementation of the WMO Youth Action Plan and strengthen WMO's engagement with youth across the Organization and with partners, in line with United Nations system-wide priorities.
The incumbent works within established WMO regulations, rules, policies and procedures, as well as the WMO Youth Action Plan, relevant WMO Bodies decisions, the United Nations Youth Strategy (Youth 2030), guidance issued by the United Nations Youth Office, and specific instructions provided by the supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Coordination Support Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
1. Serve as the WMO Youth representative and focal point for all youth related engagement and coordination.
2. Assist WMO in the implementation of the Youth Action Plan, including reporting WMO youth activities to the UN Youth Office, providing guidance on integrating youth priorities into WMO’s broader strategic initiatives and supporting youth focal points across the Secretariat, WMO bodies and Members.
3. Contribute to preparation of background documents, talking points, briefing notes, presentations and other information resources related to WMO Youth Action Plan and youth initiatives.
4. Contribute to mapping and guiding youth-oriented activities and partnerships across the organization.
5. Map and support youth related activities across the WMO portfolio.
6. Lead youth communication efforts in coordination with the Global Communication and Engagement Office.
7. Ensure efficient administrative coordination and operational support to enhance the coherence, visibility and timely delivery of WMO youth engagement activities. This extends to:
a. coordinating meetings and events, maintaining records and databases of youth-related activities and stakeholders, and facilitating internal information flow across the Secretariat.
b. support the preparation and submission of reports by compiling inputs and ensuring adherence to deadlines, as well as assist with document management, correspondence and communication processes.
c. monitor action points, support logistical arrangements for youth initiatives, and ensure efficient administrative coordination in line with WMO rules and procedures.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Master’s degree or equivalent in international relations, business administration, international development or climate related studies or a closely related field. A first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with two years of additional directly relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the master’s degree.
