Background
The Integrated Global Greenhouse Gas Information System (IG3IS) is one of the “science-for-services” initiatives of the GAW Programme. IG3IS aims to enhance the capacity of WMO Members and their subnational entities to quantify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through observation-based methodologies grounded in the best available science. NASA recognizes the importance of IG3IS and in September 2023 approved a research grant to further advance IG3IS implementation through development of methodologies and publication of good practices for greenhouse gas emission quantification at global, national, regional, city scales and for specific sectors. The guidelines on facility scale methane are one of the deliverables under this NASA grant.
