Duties and Responsibilities
Background The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) supports sustainable development and regional cooperation among its member States through policy research, technical assistance, capacity-building activities, and intergovernmental dialogue. The External Relations and Communications Section (ERC) is responsible for promoting ESCWA's work and strengthening its visibility through strategic communications, media engagement, digital outreach, and public information activities. To support the growing demand for high-quality visual content and ensure effective coverage of ESCWA's events, initiatives, and publications, ERC seeks to engage a Videographer/Photographer to provide professional photography, videography, and multimedia production services. Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Secretary of the Commission and Chief of External Relations and Outreach at ESCWA (Mr. Karim Khalil), and in close coordination with the ESCWA Communication Unit, the Videographer/Photographer (Communications Assistant) will be responsible for the following: • Capture high-quality video footage using professional cameras and audiovisual equipment during conferences, meetings, workshops, official visits, and other ESCWA events and activities. • Produce professional photography coverage of conferences, meetings, and outreach activities. • Ensure high-quality audio recording, including interviews, speeches, ambient sound, voiceovers, and live event coverage. • Set up, operate, and maintain lighting, audio, camera, and related production equipment to ensure optimal visual and sound quality in diverse environments. • Plan and execute multi-camera productions and livestreaming coverage of events when required. • Conduct video editing and post-production, including footage selection, color correction, sound mixing, subtitling, captioning, motion graphics, animations, visual effects, and final rendering for various platforms. • Produce event highlight videos, promotional videos, testimonials, documentaries, social media reels, short-form videos, and other multimedia products in accordance with ESCWA communication objectives. • Conceptualize and develop storyboards, shot lists, production plans, visual narratives, and creative concepts for multimedia projects. • Support the design and implementation of communication and outreach campaigns through the production of engaging visual content. • Ensure that all multimedia products comply with United Nations and ESCWA branding, editorial, accessibility, and communication guidelines. • Manage and maintain ESCWA’s digital multimedia archive, including organizing, cataloguing, tagging, metadata entry, backup, and retrieval of photos, videos, and other digital assets. • Monitor emerging multimedia trends, technologies, and best practices and recommend innovative approaches to enhance ESCWA’s digital storytelling and audience engagement. • Provide technical support during virtual, hybrid, and in-person events, including audiovisual setup and troubleshooting. • Conduct basic photography and videography training sessions and provide guidance to staff undertaking field missions or contributing visual content. • Support procurement processes related to multimedia production, including preparing technical specifications for audiovisual equipment and services when required. • Prepare periodic reports on completed multimedia projects, production activities, and content performance metrics. • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
A bachelor’s degree in media, art, communication, photography, cinema or audio-visual sciences is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 15 years of professional work experience in photography, media is required. Experience in an international setting is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English are required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
