Job Description:
Purpose
The Communications, Advocacy & Public Engagement (CAPE) Manager is responsible for designing and leading an integrated communications, advocacy, and public influencing programme that elevate WVG’s profile, shapes policy discourse, and drives public and donor engagement in Ghana. Working under the supervision of the Director and in close collaboration with the Business Development, Marketing, and Grants teams, the CAPI Manager ensures that the WVG's work is compellingly communicated, strategically advocated, and powerfully positioned to influence key audiences — including government, donors, civil society, the media, and the general public. The role is central to advancing the organization's ambition to be recognized as Ghana's premier thought leader and the 'go-to' organization for development impact and donor investment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications and Media Relations
- Provide overall leadership for the CAPI function, ensuring strong integration between Business Development, communications, marketing, advocacy, campaigns, and child participation.
- Lead the Management of WVG's relationships with media outlets, journalists, and content platforms, serving as a primary media liaison
- Facilitate the development and implement a CAPI business plan aligned with WV Ghana’s strategy, FOCUSED management Framework, advocacy priorities, and Partnership processes.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to Director Business Development &External Affairs on communications positioning, advocacy, public influence, and reputational risk and stakeholder messaging
- Oversee WVG's digital communications presence — including website content, social media channels, and e-communications
- Monitor media coverage and manage reputational issues proactively, escalating as required to the Director
Business Development Communications Support
- Contribute compelling communications and advocacy narratives to funding proposals, concept notes, and expressions of interest to strengthen their persuasiveness and donor appeal
- Develop communication elements of new business pitches — including organizational profiles, capability statements, theory of change summaries, and impact storytelling
- Support the cultivation of donor relationships through high-quality written communications, donor briefs, and engagement materials
- Participate the organization in donor-facing events, partner engagements, and visibility activities that support resource mobilization
- Develop communications and visibility plans for active grants and PNS, ensuring all donor branding, acknowledgement, and communications requirements are met in full and on time
Communications, Marketing & Brand Positioning
- Provide oversight and quality assurance for internal and external communications, brand alignment, marketing products, and executive communications.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality, evidence-backed storytelling that elevates child voice and programme impact.
- Oversee communications and advocacy responses during emergencies, sensitive issues, and public scrutiny.
- Ensure child-safe, ethical, and responsible public engagement across all channels.
- Coordinate strong brand coherence, increased visibility, and trusted public positioning.
Advocacy, Campaigns & Public Influence
- Provide strategic oversight of local and national-level advocacy, campaigns (including ENOUGH), and external engagement.
- Ensure advocacy priorities are informed by programme evidence, child participation, and safeguarding standards.
- Support coalition-building, movement strengthening, and engagement with civil society, faith partners, and influencers.
- Conduct stakeholder mapping and develop targeted engagement strategies for key policy influencers including government ministries, parliament, regulatory bodies, and sector leads
- Build and sustain strategic relationships with civil society organizations, government, media, think tanks, brand ambassadors and academic institutions to co-create and amplify advocacy efforts
- Monitor the national policy environment, legislative developments, and donor priorities to identify strategic advocacy opportunities and risks
- Develop advocacy position papers, policy briefs, public statements, and official submissions on behalf of the organization
- Develop and implement a public engagement strategy that grows WVG’s audience, deepens community connection, and advances its positioning as a trusted public voice on development issues in Ghana
Thought Leadership and Knowledge Communication
- Position WVG as a leading intellectual voice in Ghana's development sector by commissioning, producing, and disseminating high-quality thought leadership outputs
- Oversee production of publications including policy briefs, research summaries, evidence reports, op-eds, white papers, and annual reports
- Identify opportunities for WVG staff and leadership to speak at national and regional conferences, media platforms, and public events
Collaboration and Capacity Strengthening
- Provide internal communications coaching and support to programme staff, enhancing organizational capacity for results communication and public engagement
- Champion a culture of evidence-informed communications and data-driven advocacy across WVG
Knowledge, Skills & Experiences
- Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, International Development, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field
- Essential Experience
- Minimum 10 years' progressive experience in communications, advocacy, or public affairs within an international NGO, think tank, government, or development organization
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing national-level advocacy campaigns with measurable policy or public influence outcomes
- Exceptional writing skills with a proven ability to produce high-quality outputs for diverse audiences — including policy briefs, reports, media content, and speeches
- Track record of producing or contributing to thought leadership publications, op-eds, or policy submissions at a national or international level
- Experience working with national media, managing press relationships, and generating strategic media coverage
