Job Description:
Purpose
The Communication, Marketing & Public Engagement Coordinator is a refreshed, strategically elevated role responsible for driving the organization’s integrated communications, marketing, and public engagement activities across a significantly expanded portfolio. In addition to core responsibilities in digital communications, brand management, content creation, storytelling, and influencer engagement, the role in addition plays a critical function in directly supporting resource acquisition, grants management communications, and business development. Working under the supervision of the CAPI Manager, the Coordinator ensures that WVG’s brand is powerfully positioned, its stories are compellingly told, and its communications assets actively contribute to growing donor investment, public influence, and organizational sustainability. The post-holder is a creative, digitally fluent, and strategically minded communicator who understands that great communications is not just about visibility- understands that great communications is about driving results.
Key Responsibilities
A. Resource Acquisition and Business Development Communications Support
- Develop and produce high-quality, visually compelling marketing and communications materials that directly support resource mobilization efforts, including donor pitches, capability brochures, WVG’s profiles, funding prospectuses, and impact portfolios
- Produce tailored donor-facing communications assets — including case studies, infographics, sector briefs, annual highlights, data visualizations, and multimedia content — that strengthen WVG’s competitiveness in grant proposals and business development bids
- Develop marketing content for new partnership approaches, corporate engagement campaigns, and social enterprise promotion
- Manage WVG’s public-facing presence at donor events, funding conferences, and sector showcases, including exhibition materials, presentations, and digital displays
- Contribute communications expertise to funding proposals by developing communications plans, visibility strategies, and branding components required by donors
B. Digital Communications and Brand Management
- Manage and continuously improve the organization’s digital presence, including its website, social media platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube), e-newsletters, and digital campaigns
- Maintain and enforce WVG’s brand identity standards across all internal and external communications outputs, providing guidance to staff on correct brand application
- Monitor digital analytics, track audience engagement metrics, and produce regular reports on digital performance, using data insights to continuously optimize content strategy and channel effectiveness
- Lead the development and execution of targeted digital marketing campaigns to grow WVG’s online audience, increase donor awareness, and amplify advocacy and programmatic messaging.
C. Content Creation and Strategic Storytelling
- Research, write, and produce a diverse range of high-quality communications content — including feature stories, programme updates, human interest stories, blogs, op-eds, newsletters, speeches, and annual reports — that compellingly communicate WVG’s impact
- Develop impact stories and case studies that translate complex programmatic results into accessible, emotionally resonant narratives for donor, public, and policy audiences
- Produce and coordinate multimedia content — including photographs, short videos, podcasts, and social media reels — that brings WVG’s work to life for diverse audiences across multiple platforms
- Ensure all content produced is accurate, ethically sound, and compliant with WV’s safeguarding, data protection, and consent policies, particularly in relation to beneficiary representation
- Manage comD. Grants and Donor Communications Managementmunications and visibility plans for active grants and PNS, ensuring all donor branding, acknowledgement, and communications requirements are met in full and on time
- Coordinate the production of project learning briefs, end-of-project publications, and programmatic knowledge products in collaboration with programme and grants teams
- Maintain a donor communications calendar, tracking all reporting deadlines, visibility obligations, and stewardship communications to ensure no donor communication is missed
- Support the development of communications sections of new grant proposals, including visibility strategies, beneficiary communications plans, and knowledge dissemination frameworks
E. Public Engagement and Influencer Strategy
- Implement a public engagement strategy that grows WVG’s audience, deepens community connection, and advances its positioning as a trusted public voice on development issues in Ghana
- Identify, map, and cultivate relationships with relevant influencers, brand ambassadors, sector champions, media personalities, and civil society voices whose platforms can amplify WVG’s messaging and reach
- Design and manage influencer engagement campaigns, co-creation opportunities, and ambassador partnerships that extend WVG’s communications reach to new and diverse audiences
- Supervise public sentiment and audience feedback across platforms and channels, using insights to inform and adapt public engagement strategies in real time
F. Communications Operations and Departmental Support
- Manage day-to-day communications operations, including scheduling content publication, coordinating design and production workflows, managing vendor relationships (designers, printers, videographers), and maintaining communications systems
- Contribute to departmental planning, reporting, and budgeting processes, providing communications activity updates, performance data, and expenditure tracking
- Provide communications support to WVG events, including staff forums, board meetings, donor visits, programme launches, and public celebrations
- Stay abreast of emerging communications trends, digital innovations, and best practices in the development sector, proactively proposing new approaches and tools that enhance organizational communications effectiveness
Knowledge, Skill & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Development Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree is an asset)
- At least 5–7 years of experience in communications and/or marketing, preferably within NGOs, development, or advocacy-focused organisations.
- Experience supervising staff or coordinating the work of others.
- Demonstrated experience supporting content production across multiple channels and formats.
- Experience working in fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Membership of a professional association is an added advantage.
- Effective in written and verbal communication in English.
- The position requires the ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 40% of the time, and occasionally internationally
- This role may involve working extended periods outdoors in remote environments and carrying communications equipment weighing up to 10kg.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing organizational social media platforms, websites, and digital campaigns, with proficiency in content management systems and digital analytics tools
- Demonstrated experience managing influencer, ambassador, or public engagement partnerships and campaigns
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a portfolio of published communications outputs across diverse formats and audiences
- Experience developing donor-facing communications materials, grant reports, or business development marketing collateral in an NGO setting
- Proficiency in design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent; strong MS Office and Google Workspace skills
- Experience working in Ghana or West Africa in a development communications context
- Experience with SEO, paid digital advertising, or email marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp, HubSpot)
- Photography and/or videography skills; experience producing multimedia content for development audiences
- Familiarity with donor branding and visibility requirements of major institutional funders (GIZ/BMZ, FCDO, EU, UN agencies)
- Established relationships with Ghana’s media, influencer, or creative industry communities
- Video editing skills using tools such as Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent
