The Child Protection Programme is a component of the Country Programme in Ukraine. The efficiency and efficacy of support provided by the Child Protection Officer to programme preparation, planning and implementation, contributes to the achievement of sustainable results to create a protective environment for children against harm and all forms of violence, and ensures their survival, development and well-being in society. Success in child protection programmes and projects in turn contributes to maintaining and enhancing the credibility and ability of UNICEF to provide programme services for mothers and children that promotes greater social equality in the country.

The Child Protection Officer provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for child protection programmes/projects within the Country Programme from development planning to delivery of results. H/She prepares, executes, manages, and implements a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks to facilitate programme development, implementation, programme progress monitoring, evaluating and reporting.

Her/His area of responsibility primarily covers the recovery and humanitarian child protection programme, with extensive support to the ongoing programmes in Kharkiv, Sumy and Poltava Regions.

The Child Protection Officer will work under the supervision of Child Protection Specialist in Kharkiv and will work closely with government counterparts, civil society organizations, UN partners and communities to achieve sustainable child protection results and strengthen local capacities.

Minimum requirements

1. Education: Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in international development, social work, human rights, psychology, sociology, law, or another relevant social science field.
2. Work Experience: 2 years of relevant work experience in Social Policy, Law, Planning, Development, Social development planning and management in social work, law, social sector and any other related fields.
3. Skills: Child Protection, Programme Management, Humanitarian Response, Partnership, Stakeholder Engagement, Communication
4. Language Requirements: English - Proficient/Fluent, Ukrainian - Proficient/Fluent (in particular, formal language and child protection terminology)

Desirables

1. Experience in programme development in child protection related areas, experience in a UN system agency or organization, experience working in Government and/or CSO in the field of child protection
2. Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
3. Language: Knowledge of another official UN language.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF.
