The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is responding to its 17th Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak, confirmed in May 2026 and affecting Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu provinces. The situation remains complex and evolving, with transmission occurring in both community and health-care settings. Response efforts are led by national authorities in a context shaped by health system limitations, logistical constraints, insecurity, displacement, and diverse community perceptions influencing health-seeking behaviors.
UNICEF supports the Government through a multi-sectoral approach, focusing on community engagement, surveillance, infection prevention, and the continuity of essential services for vulnerable populations.
This context requires strong coordination, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity to support effective and equitable response efforts, particularly for children and at-risk communities.
How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision of the Hub Coordinators in Bunia, Beni, and Butembo, the Child Protection Specialists (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support – MHPSS), NOC, contribute to the planning, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of Child Protection interventions within the Ebola response, with a focus on:
- Provision of psychosocial support (MHPSS) for affected and/or at-risk children and families, healthcare workers, and community-level psychoeducation.
- Case management and referral for affected and at-risk children and families, including interim care, reunification, psychosocial support, and access to specialized services.
- Strengthening of the social service workforce system, including capacity-building of social workers, para-social staff, and psychologists.
MAJOR DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strengthening of the social service workforce and case management systems
- Psychosocial response (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support – MHPSS)
- Intersectoral coordination and integration
- Capacity-building initiatives

Minimum requirements:
- Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in one of the following fields: social sciences, human rights, sociology, psychology, or a related field.
- Work Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in child protection in emergency settings, MHPSS, case management, and social work.
- Language Requirements: Fluency in French and intermediate English are required.
