The Operations and Technology Support Branch (OTSB) provides key support to all INS operations and technology-related activities, drawing upon operational synergies with the OPCW ChemTech Centre. OTSB is responsible for coordinating all INS missions, providing operational, informational, administrative, technical and logistical support and ensuring timely and efficient procurement and maintenance of inspection equipment. OTSB also maintains close communication with inspection teams and States Parties before, during, and after the inspections. OTSB’s Situation Centre provides 24/7 support and maintains comprehensive operational control of missions to ensure secure and reliable communications through its Operations Centre. Through its InfoCell Unit, OTSB also analyses information and briefs OPCW leadership to facilitate the decision-making process and assist in crisis management.
1) Purpose of Internship: The purpose of the Internship is to provide a comprehensive learning experience in open-source research within an international organization. The Intern will gain practical exposure to the full research cycle, including the identification, collection, verification, analysis and synthesis of information from publicly available sources. Through this work, the Intern will contribute to the Organization’s mandate and activities by supporting the development of timely, accurate and contextually relevant information products. The Internship is also intended to strengthen the Intern’s critical thinking, source evaluation and analytical writing skills, while fostering a broader understanding of the international security environment and the global context in which OPCW operates. 2) Terms of Reference for the Internship: Monitoring, analysing, and reporting on time sensitive open-source information, including allegations of chemical weapons use, security threats to deployed OPCW missions, and developments in conflict areas of interest. Conducting open-source research and contributing to the preparation of various sections of Information Cell’s routine reports (weekly + monthly), as well as ad hoc analytical products. Drafting a working paper on the CW capabilities of a state not party to the CWC Monitoring open sources concerning major incidents at industrial chemical facilities worldwide and drafting brief notes related on the subject. Contributing to the development of various templates for new reporting products, encompassing formatting, structure, and providing recommendations for both layout and content enhancement. Updating and maintaining the list of sources used for open-source research, ensuring that relevant platforms, databases, media outlets, and specialist monitoring tools remain current, reliable, and aligned with the Information Cell’s operational priorities.
