What we do
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
Purpose
As a Protection Field Officer with the ICRC Mission in the Republic of Kazakhstan, you will join the team of the ICRC Regional Delegation for Central Asia, which has been operational in the region since 1992. The Delegation works to protect and assist vulnerable populations affected by conflict and other emergencies in Kazakhstan and abroad, in close cooperation with National Red Crescent Societies. The ICRC supports National Societies and state authorities across the region in strengthening their capacities, particularly in emergency preparedness, protection of family links, and the promotion of international humanitarian law (IHL). It also supports the implementation of IHL and other relevant international norms, while fostering understanding of the ICRC’s mandate and activities.
Under the supervision and guidance of the Head of Mission and the Protection Coordinator of the ICRC Regional Delegation for Central Asia, the Protection Field Officer contributes to the implementation and monitoring of ICRC activities in the areas of Protection.
