Purpose of consultancy The consultant will supervise and provide technical guidance to minor rehabilitation works, related to WASH, and IPC activities in targeted health facilities (Hospitals , Central Public Health Labs (CPHL), Emergency Operation Centers (EOC), National Blood Transfusion Centers (NBTC) and Primary Heath Cares (PHC)) to enhance their functionality and resilience and ensure appropriate implementation of required activities and contributing to the overall health outcomes in Sudan.
Background
The World Health Organization (WHO) serves as the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. Sudan is currently facing a convergence of public health emergencies stemming from armed conflict, displacement, disease outbreaks, economic instability, and natural disasters.
These challenges have placed enormous strain on the health system, calling for targeted interventions to strengthen health facility functionality and resilience. Within the SHARE (supported by the world Bank) and SHIEP (supported by the African Developmental Bank), WHO aims to support targeted health facilities through minor rehabilitation and improvements in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) to ensure safe, effective, and climate-resilient health service delivery. This consultancy focuses on addressing these critical needs.
Under WASH the main objective is to ensure reliable water supply, functional sanitation facilities, and waste management systems, and to address hand hygiene infrastructure, wastewater drainage, and availability of clean water for medical and non-medical use.
