BACKGROUND
The position is based in the Humanitarian Adviser Team (HAT), United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Manila, Philippines. The position holder is deployable to multiple locations across the country or to other countries depending on needs. Under the direct supervision of the Head of Office, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), working as an integral part of the organization's ROAP team, the incumbent will work in close collaboration with the UN Resident Coordinator, Government and relief/recovery partners to support the formulation of strategies of engagement in support of the mandate of OCHA at both managerial and operational levels. The incumbent will also frequently interact, under the guidance of ROAP leadership with senior OCHA staff at headquarter level in the Coordination and Response Division (CRD).
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
In a broader context, the incumbent leads the Manila Humanitarian Adviser Team (HAT) support to the UN Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator and humanitarian partners in support of the operations of the OCHA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), to ensure effective coordination of disaster preparedness and response and facilitate a transition towards relief and development in close collaboration with government and development partners. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing thought leadership and support to the Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator and operational partners to consider the priorities of the most vulnerable communities in humanitarian and early recovery planning.
Ensures effective leadership in the coordination of disaster preparedness, response and early recovery activities through adequate liaison and partnership with Government officials and local/national and international partners.
